Advanced Placement courses allow students an opportunity to receive high school and college credit simultaneously. The AP program exposes students to college-level course material. Due to the rigorous coursework, AP courses receive six quality points for grade point calculations. For students entering ninth grade during the 2015-2016 school year or after, AP quality points will be five points as issued by the revised policy from the NC Department of Public Instruction (DPI). The AP Program is administered through the College Board. At the end of the course, students have an opportunity to take the AP Exam. Individual colleges and universities may award students college credit providing the student’s exam score meets or exceeds their qualifying exam score. AP courses benefit the student as they may save college tuition costs, reduce time spent in college, help students experience college course rigor, and improve study and time management skills. In addition, by taking AP courses, students can also stand out in the college admission process.

AP courses may be subject to grade level restrictions. Parents and students should consult with their high school guidance counselor for more information.   Lexington Senior High School offers the following AP course:
