Locking Your Screen

Lock Your Screen Before You Leave the Scene
Do you have multiple devices? Take your ipad to the beach on vacation? Ever find it hard to get through a conversation without posting an update to social media? Is your computer always on?
Today is National Day of Unplugging, beginning at sundown tonight, March 3rd, through sundown tomorrow night, March 4th. As we spend more and more time in a digitally connected cyber environment, consider taking the disconnect challenge and reconnect with someone or something important to you during this 24 hour period.
Before you disconnect, keep this week's Cyber Security Awareness Tip in mind:

You wouldn’t go out for the day and leave your front door wide open, right? The same principle applies to the devices you use. You should always lock your screen when you finish using your computer, laptop, tablet or phone. For added security, you should also set your device to automatically lock when it goes to sleep. This is especially important for phones or tablets, which are more likely to get misplaced and discovered by people you don’t want to access your information, and home computers that are in shared spaces.

On many computers, you can lock your screen by going into your computer’s Systems Preferences. For your phone or tablet, locking your device with a PIN or pattern helps provide an extra layer of security for your data.
So on National Day of Unplugging, take the Unplug Pledge beginning tonight at sundown...but first, be sure to log out of all programs and lock the screen before leaving...even if only stepping away for a moment. It protects you and your data!
