Communication

During online learning, frequent and open communication with your student’s teachers will be extremely important. Teachers will be opening up multiple lines of communication with both parents and students. Teachers will respond to any communication within one business day.
Email:

  • Email will be the primary communication method for both parents and grade 1-12 students.
  • Students should be checking their school email multiple times a day.
  • Parents can use the Staff Directory to find teacher email addresses. The small globe symbol beside the teacher name in the directory will link you to the teacher webpage.

Class Dojo/Remind:

  • Teachers will use Class Dojo or Remind accounts to communicate with parents, based on grade level.
  • By connecting with your child's teacher on the specific tool listed above, you are able to message teachers directly.
  • Instructions are listed below.
  • Teachers will share their Class Dojo and Remind information with you on their class webpages, at virtual meetings, on printed material sent home, and other methods.

Canvas:

  • Students in grades K-12 will receive virtual instruction in Canvas but are also able to use these instructions to access Canvas.
  • Students will log in to see teachers and classmates, participate in learning, submit assignments, take assessments, etc.
  • Once logged in, students will go to the Dashboard in Canvas and choose their class.
  • Teachers will walk students through how to log in to Canvas.
  • Use thisParent Guide access to Canvas and monitor your child's work - you MUST have Pairing Code.
  • Pairing Code can come from your child as the Guide explains, or it can be provided by your child's teacher.
  • The Pairing Code will give the parent access to ALL classes/courses in Canvas in which the student is enrolled.
  • More Canvas resources are posted below.

Powerschool:

  • You will be able to monitor your child's grade via Powerschool.
  • Students will have a week to turn in assignments so their grade in Canvas may reflect a discrepancy of a week.
  • Use this Parent Guide to access Powerschool and monitor your child's grades.

Phone Calls:

  • Teachers will be making phone calls on Fridays to reach out to parents of students who did not attend virtual class for the week and/or did not turn in their assignments.
  •  You can also email a teacher to request a phone call.
  • LCS uses a phone and text messaging system called SchoolMessenger. The number associated with your child on their school record is the number that receives important call outs and alerts. To add additional numbers or notification types, you can visit our SchoolMessenger page.

Teacher Websites:

  • Teacher websites will include all of their contact information and instructions on connecting with them through the above tools: Class Dojo or Remind.
  • Other relevant information will also be posted.

Video Conferencing:

  • Teachers use Google Meet for video conferencing with students and parents.
  • More information on using Google Meet is posted below.

Social Media:

  • District and School level social media will be on their respective webpages.
  • Teacher social media accounts will be on their teacher webpages.
